Orc Commandos painted WIP.

The Commandos, how should I pant them up, what should they look like, well here is one way I thought they should look. I have created a progress photo stream of my work on 4 of my Orc Commandos today.

Start with some GZG mercs, and a few paints. I used Green, Antique white, sable brown, Black, red, yellow, white, silver (metallic), Polyshades dip, Testers dull coat.

With the two colours below I mixed up most of the uniform, gun, armour, and boots.

Bellow are the Orcs ready for dip, and I have brushed it on.

Once the dip is dry, I sprayed with dull coat, and hit some detail work.

Only thing left is to finish up the bases. Then put them to work.

Ratz........

Well it has been over a month without a post from me, so here is what I have been doing. About three weeks ago I switched gears (as I often do) and picked up my SBH stuff again. If you do not know SBH is Song Of Blades and Heroes a fast play Skirmish game. I have replaced Mordhiem with SBH. So in making this switch I have moved back to my 28mm miniatures, and started to paint them. I have 4 war bands, and decided to work on my Ratz. Now I had a war band all picked out, and minis for each member, but I did not like my sling throwers, as they were very old GW plastic, I am talking late 80s, early 90s static posed ratz. Remembering I still had a few un-assembled Mordhiem Ratz to build, I decided to replace the old ones with new ones. Last weekend I got started with rebuilding my Ratz Warband. My Old War band had four sling throwers, and I replaced three of them with throwing weapon Ratz, shorter range but a bit higher combat stat.

Now that I had it on paper, I started on completing the minis. I put the missing minis together, and primed them up. Yesterday I set to painting them, and completed 4, plus finished the leader.
Before I finished the bases.
Do not ask how I made this motion gif, as Picasa did it for me with out me even knowing.

So here is 5 of my nine Doom Ratz, the last four are half painted. I have switched to faster painting method, as I have given up on making show stopper paint jobs. I want my minis for play, and they just need to be play ready. So I paint them in a simple block painting with very little highlight, and no shading, or inks. Then I dip them. I am very happy with how they have come out , and with the dip method. I know it is hard to see in the photos, but for the rusted armor look I have mixed sliver with a touch of bronze, but I did not mix it well. By leaving it unmixed it painted on blotchy, and this gave me the rusted armor look, quickly.

I hope you like them.
Noel.

Yet Another Timely Post From ME!

Hi All,
I have been busy as all ways, and have only grabbed hobby time in small bits. I have been working on the TV room in our house. We have not been using our TV room, or Den for years, and have decided to make it a functional room for the hole family. So I ripped out the carpet and put down a new floor. Now the only ones who liked the carpet was the dogs, and they used it as a toilet.

Here is the floor half done. I was completely done after finishing this project.

Next on the mini front, I was able to pick up some new to me minis online. A great Guy was parting with some Khurasan units (unpainted), and some Old Crow vehicles. Here is the prime box I used. The tanks I did on another box in black.

I was able to offer him what he wanted, and they cam in this past week. I have all was wanted to get some of the Khurasan units as they are very nice looking, kinda like Haloish. But I was never sure how I would paint them up. So as I was moving crap around my desk at home I saw my copy of Battle Field 2142 (PC game) and I loved the way the units would have Orange on there uniforms. Also I do not buy into the need for camo in the future. With tech being as high as it is now, I do not need to really see you. So I opted for a simple OD green, with Orange added. I have painted and dipped them I just now need to do the bases, and come back with a mat or flat finish coat to dull them out. The APC is just painted and not finished yet, soon I will dip it!!!

So I do like them.
Next I have been reading the Micro scenarios from Gaven from 15mm UK, and I am going to play them all out in Universal Battle. I am going to change it up a bit, but putting Space Orcs up as the bad guys. I got this idea from a guy running the old RT At The Farm scenario, and I loved the AAR he did. So keep you eyes open for a bit on that set of games. Oh yes I will be using USE ME for the rules.

Dip VS Wash for minis!

I spent a good two hours painting this weekend and now want to show the difference between Dipped, and Washed minis. I have taken the advice of many and did not Dip these minis but brushed on my Dip. I tried to brush on the Dip to a vehicle and was not happy with this, I will really Dip my vehicles from now on. Also I found that as this is a gloss dip the camera dose not focus on the Dipped mini as well as the washed mini. You will see this in the photos below. The photos below are going to be one Washed, and One Dipped, mini side by side and the same type of mini. There is one by him self, and is the over all commander of my army.

From these two photos the Dipped on is on the left, and dose not look as dark over all. The one draw back is the dip covers the white of the belts and bags to much. I will touch the up quickly, before I dull coat them.

You can see the red of the uniform much brighter on the Dipped mini over the washed on. And the helmet is not as dark as well.

Here you can see the lack of focus on this guy, my leader. I think it is because of the gloss, so my next test will be to see what they look like after dull coat.
